Guidance published on multi-grip myoelectric upper limb prosthetics
Health Technology Wales has published new guidance on the use of multi-grip myoelectric upper limb prosthetics for people with upper limb difference.
Following a re-assessment of multi-grip myoelectric upper limb prosthetics, HTW’s guidance concludes that evidence on the use of the technology for people with upper limb difference remains insufficient to support their routine adoption.
Health Technology Wales (HTW) carries out appraisals of non-medicine health and social care technologies and publishes national guidance on their use in Wales.
Its guidance states that the benefit of multi-grip upper limb prosthetics compared to other types of prosthetics for upper limb difference is uncertain and their current use should depend upon individual patient needs.
HTW goes on to recommend that data should be gathered on patience experience and patient outcomes for those who have access to the technology.
