Health Technology Wales to advise national PET-CT board

We’ve joined a national working group on Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanning.

Matthew Prettyjohns, our Principal Researcher, has become an advisor to the PET-CT Strategic Programme Board, a part of the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC). The aim of the group is to develop a strategic business case for future PET-CT services in Wales.

WHSSC is a joint committee of the seven Local Health Boards in Wales, and is responsible for commissioning PET-CT services in Wales. WHSSC has delegated responsibility to commission a range of specialised services to ensure equitable access to safe, effective and sustainable specialised services for the people of Wales.

WHSSC uses Health Technology Wales’ published Guidance and Health Technology Assessments (HTA) to inform its decisions and commissioning of specialised non-medicine technologies for patients residing in Wales.

In January 2019, we published Guidance on Fluorine- or gallium- prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers in the investigation of recurrent prostate cancer.
